Solar Panels for Your Home Just Got More Affordable

Considering solar panels for your home? You might be interested in Alachua County’s new solar co-op.

What’s better than solar energy?

Solar energy that’s affordable for everyone.

And here in Alachua County, residents are collaborating to make that happen.

Alachua homeowners are banding together to form a solar co-op. Solar co-ops make it possible to get discounted solar panels for your home through large group purchases.

The co-op will use a competitive bidding process to choose the most affordable solar provider for large group purchases. Participants sign their own contracts with the installer, but everyone gets to enjoy the group discount.

SPLC attended the co-op launch at Swamp Head Brewery this week.

Think of it as buying in bulk, but for renewable energy. Or the best Groupon you’ve ever heard of.

As you can guess, we’re pretty excited about this.

Sun Power Lawn Care was founded on the belief that local communities hold the key to a more sustainable world. That’s exactly what we’re seeing with this co-op and we couldn’t be prouder of our neighbors!

The co-op’s sponsors include our friends at We Are Neutral and lots of other awesome, local, eco-friendly businesses and organizations.

If you’re interested in learning more about the co-op or how you can participate to get solar panels for your home, there are two information sessions coming up that you can attend:

  • April 30, 3 p.m.: Alachua County Library Headquarters, 401 East University Avenue, Gainesville (RSVP).
  • May 21, 3 p.m.: Alachua Library Branch, 14913 NW 140 Street, Alachua (RSVP).
